5 Top Golf Courses in the East Bay

Poppy Ridge Golf Course
Northern California is a rich part of the state that offers compelling landscapes and sweeping ocean views. There are tons of golf courses in this East Bay area that take advantage of all the notable features, incorporating the natural beauty of the land into the architecture of this beloved game. Golfers of every skill level can find a course that will challenge them while still presenting a setting for the game that is unlike any other in the country. Every county in the area has renown courses that draw in players from all across the nation. These well-loved courses will open the eyes of players to the game in ways that they have not yet experienced.

Chuck Corica Golf Complex, Alameda

The Jack Clark course over 6,500 yards of game play. Although the course is relatively flat, players will find that it requires precise skill and ball placement in order to experience success. The course is covered in trees, presenting both obstacles and a nicely crafted path through the course itself. Water is prevalent throughout the links, again, requiring players to bring forth their best game. In addition to the main course, the property features a nine-hole, par 3 course for beginners to hone in their performance. The Jack Clark Golf Course is also home to the Alameda Golf Club.

Franklin Canyon Golf Course, Hercules

The Franklin Canyon Course is situated in an area where wind is nearly always a factor. The elevation changes provide dynamic game play, challenging even the most experienced players. Water is a hazard on 4 of the 18 holes that golfers will face down. The hole design is unique, making it a popular favorite for local golfers. For this reason, making reservations will get you on the green faster. The course has been in operation since 1968, helping to build the reputation of designer Robert Muir Graves.

Poppy Ridge Golf Course and Las Positas, Livermore

The Norther California Golf Association maintains the Poppy Ridge Golf Course. They are also responsible for its construction with the help of designer Rees Jones in 1996. This link-style course is situated inland, taking players through 18 holes of tiered greens. The course is extremely well maintained, treating golfers to a professional experience. The property houses a total of 27 holes, naming different sections of the course after the fine wines produced in the California area.

Also in Livermore is the Las Positas Golf Course. Another Graves design, this course first opened its greens to the public in 1965. The flat layout is lush with trees and foliage. The design packs a challenge for any golfer who claims to be at the top of their game. Featuring four lakes and a creek, the course is municipally maintained. In addition to the regular greens, golfers can enjoy an exclusive 9 hole executive package as well.

Moraga Country Club Golf Course, Moraga

The Moraga Country Club hosts an excellent private course that has been intriguing golfers since 1974. Over 6,000 yards of play calls for players to bring a precise game. The fairways are cut close and the greens are extremely fast. The large number of hills leading to the cup call for successfully incorporating a variety of skills into one solid game of golf.
